Types of Wedding Ceremonies I Provide:
For each of the particular services noted below, my commitment includes two pre-marital conversations to help each couple not only prepare for the wedding, but build a foundation for a great marriage, and attendance at both the wedding rehearsal and wedding ceremony.
For out-of-town couples, our pre-wedding planning and counseling conversations can take place via phone or Skype.
Traditional Christian Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony that I use has all the elements of a classic Christian wedding liturgy, and can include the Eucharist/sacrament of communion if the couple wishes. Without communion, the service typically lasts about 25 minutes including the processional and the recessional. With communion, it is typically 35 minutes or so. With this service, the couple has many options on how they would like to see the details of the service shaped, and part of our conversations together will include addressing these details.
Interfaith Ceremony
When I perform and inter-faith service, I collaborate closely with the wedding officiant /religious leader from the other tradition, and with the couple. Together we work to create a ceremony that honors both traditions, and does so in a manner that flows smoothly, and can be enjoyed by all the guests. If you have not selected you other officiant, I can also assist in that process. I have relationships with many South Florida clergy members who officiate weddings.
Custom Ceremony (both religious and non-religious)
I realize that often people carry wounds from certain religious traditions, and may not be comfortable with a service clearly identified with a particular tradition, but one that is broader in scope. As part of my conversations with the couple, we can shape a service together that honors all the many ways that they have experienced the presence of Love and Connection in their lives, and that is representative of their commitment and their journey.
GBLT Ceremonies
GLBT weddings and commitment ceremonies vary by couple, just as they do with straight couples. Some couples prefer a more traditional religious service, while for others an interfaith / multi-cultural, non-religious, or creative ceremony fits their need. What is crucial in all the descriptions above is that the couple experiences this ceremony as an authentic expression of their love for one another in all its depth and richness. My commitment is to work with the couple to provide just such an expression. I personally believe that love and commitment need to be honored and celebrated in all their expressions.
We could not have been happier with Kennedy as our officiant. We already knew from coming to church services that we liked his style of preaching – Kennedy is very energetic and that he presents scripture lessons in a relatable way- but he absolutely exceeded our expectations with our wedding service. He really took the time to get to know us as a couple through our pre-wedding counseling sessions, gave us good guidance for starting out our marriage, and used our discussions to tailor our service for us and our families. He worked with us to incorporate readings that we chose and gave us various options for the service so that our wedding felt personal. Then, on the day of our wedding, he hit the exact right tone for the occasion – it was still appropriately solemn, but truly so joyful. I felt Kennedy was as exuberant about our marriage as we were (and still are). Many of our wedding guests from various religious backgrounds commented on how great the service was and how much they liked Kennedy. We were so happy with every element of our wedding, but particularly with Kennedy, and recommend him very highly. – Naomi & Del
We were definitely happy with the service that pastor Kennedy performed! Rashad and I were very happy with his choices of words and we were not only happy with the service, but with the marriage counseling that we had beforehand. We learned a whole lot from him and would recommend him to any of our friends or family. -Marcelina & Rashad
